Press Release: Deadly Missile Attacks on Hospitals and School in Aleppo and Idlib

On February 15, four hospitals and a school in provinces of Aleppo and Idlib were struck by airstrikes and missile attacks, leaving civilian casualties, including women and children. Two of the four hospitals attacked were supported by SAMS, another one was supported by Doctors Without Borders (MSF), and the fourth hospital attacked was an OBGYN/neonatal clinic.

The Syrian government kept up its assault on the health care system in August, which saw an unprecedented number of attacks on medical facilities in a four-day period, as well as the highest number of medical personnel killed in the last ten months.

Airstrikes hit or landed near nine hospitals in Idlib province from August 7 to 10, including three hospitals supported by MSF. Eleven people were killed in the strikes, including three hospital staff members and one patient.

Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition Condemns Abduction of Aid Workers in Syria

The Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition condemns the abduction of Red Cross and Red Crescent workers in Syria and demands the release of all who are held. Although four of the workers have been released, three others have not. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, the individuals were traveling to assess medical facilities in the Idlib and to deliver medical supplies. They were in vehicles clearly marked with the ICRC emblem.
