The UN Secretary-General’s annual report names 64 perpetrators for abuse and exploitation of children in conflict, including the Saudi Arabia-led Coalition in Yemen. Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition member Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict has documented violations in Yemen by the Saudi Arabia-led Coalition, including attacks on hospitals and their impact on children's health.

Attacks on Medical Facilities in Yemen: Should Medical Humanitarians Stay?

According to Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières or MSF), there have been three attacks in a three-month span on their facilities in Yemen. An October 27th airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition destroyed Haydan hospital. Then, on December 2nd, a Saudi-led strike hit a health facility in Taiz. This past Sunday, January 10th, a Saudi-led coalition projectile hit the MSF-supported Shiara Hospital in Razeh. Combined, these incidents have resulted in significant death, injury, and destruction.

Mere hours after it announced the end of its military campaign, a Saudi-led military coalition resumed aerial bombardment of military targets in Yemen. Since the Saudi-led military forces intervened in the Yemeni conflict, civilian casualties have dramatically increased. Moreover, constant bombings have destroyed hospitals and other civilian facilities, crippling Yemeni infrastructure and preventing health workers from providing medical care. Those health facilities that continue to function in Yemen are under increasing pressure.
