Children are starving to death in Central African Republic because violence has forced aid workers to pull out, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator for the country said.

Following the deadly attack on the United Nations aid convoy headed to Aleppo, the United States said Russia was probably responsible for the bombing, further shredding what remained of a severely weakened agreement between the United States and Russia aimed at halting the war.

Following the deadly overnight attack on a humanitarian aid convoy in Syria, most likely carried out by Syrian or Russian government aircraft, PHR condemns the attack that killed approximately 20 people, including aid workers and truck drivers, and destroyed 18 trucks loaded with vital food, medical, and other humanitarian supplies meant for tens of thousands of Syrians in opposition-held areas west of Aleppo city.

As new cases of Ebola rose at the start of February in Guinea, violent attacks on health workers and aid teams increase. "People tell us if we don't leave they'll beat us up, or smash up the car," said Paquile Zoglelemou, head of the Red Cross in Lola, a town set in thick, tropical jungle in the deep southeast of Guinea near the Liberian border.

Just because time advances, it doesn’t mean conditions get better. It wasn’t all that long ago that polio had largely been eradicated from the world. But polio is back—in Nigeria, in Syria and, more significantly, in Pakistan. The story is complex, woven with political issues that seem to be unrelated to the reemergence of this horrible disease.
