International Medical Corps’ Hospital in Juba Hit by Shelling Amidst Escalating Violence in South Sudan

The maternity wing of an International Medical Corps’ hospital in the Protection of Civilian (PoC) site in Juba, South Sudan, was hit by shelling amidst escalating violence. No staff or patients were injured, but the attack forced International Medical Corps’ team to relocate critical patients to another facility inside the UN base.

We know very little about what happened to Sister Veronika Rackova, a physician and Catholic nun who was loved by her community in Yei, South Sudan. We know that someone shot at Sister Veronika’s ambulance and she died four days later. She was one of more than a thousand people killed in the last 15 months as a result of attacks on health care.
