Statement

Physicians for Human Rights, a member of the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition, and other nongovernmental organizations urge the US and UK to prevent a catastrophic worsening of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and avoid the serious risk that continued conflict in Yemen will lead to regional destabilization and increased threats to international peace and security.

In this press release, coalition member International Council of Nurses (ICN) calls for increased protection of health workers through legislation, zero tolerance policies, security measure, education, and improved working environments.

Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition welcomes a new resolution by the UN Security Council condemning attacks on health workers and facilities. The value of the resolution will be determined by whether states adhere to international norms, develop strategies to prevent attacks, and bring perpetrators of attacks to justice.
